Happy New Year’s Eve! Cookie and I started the day off right with fruit and Prosecco cocktails. I mixed a small amount of pomegranate juice with fresh pomegranate arils, muddled and strained kiwi with lime, and made a traditional mimosa with a couple of ounces of orange juice, garnished with a slice of mandarin orange. Top off any of those options with bubbly Prosecco or Champagne for a festive cocktail. I hope you enjoy looking at my colorful concoctions as much as I did drinking them!
In hindsight, 2010 has been a year of exploration and contemplation.
I started this blog, which has turned into a beautiful side project. I traveled around the United States, exploring cities from North Carolina to California. I fell in love with the delicious field of food photography. I’ve even kept a jungle’s worth of houseplants alive, including the potted plants on my windowsill and lots of cuttings in vintage vases.
I have high hopes for 2011.
I hope to take advantage of new opportunities in a bigger and better city. I hope to set fear aside, get my priorities straight, and take baby step after baby step in the right direction. And I’m going to document it all here, of course. Cheers to 2011!

Thanks, Samantha! I work in online marketing but I’ve been traveling in my free time. In fact, the best thing about my job just might be the paid vacation days! ;)

Hi Kate!
I’m a newbie to your site but I feel like I’ve hit the culinary lotto! No cook am I…as I’ve always struggled with recipe sites and somehow nothing ever turned out as good as it read on the page..,but not so yours! I’ve already made 5 of your recipes ( the butternut squash chili twice in one week by demand!) and my family is thrilled! These have all been amazing and the photography superb! Love ths site and now count myself as an ardent fan!!
