My house plant obsession is no secret. Succulents are some of my favorites. This fall, a succulent in my bedroom window has turned a lovely shade of fuchsia. Here are some photos to photos to pretty up your Monday:
Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the varieties above. The solid green one looks like jade, but I don’t think it is. Any ideas?

Looks like a type of sedum, perhaps. If you like succulents, K&K Nursery on 12th often has unusual varieties.
For all the orchid lovers out there, about half a teaspoon of fish emulsion per half gallon of water will make your plants produce leaves and spikes often. If your plant came from a florist, chances are it is planted in sphagnum moss, which holds water like crazy and promotes root rot. You can pick up orchid mix just about anywhere that sells dirt. I think it is a really good idea to re-pot orchids that are in moss.

Thank you for your comments and tips, ladies! I love succulents AND orchids, although I have lots of succulents around the house and only one orchid. Orchids look delicate, but so far mine has been as easy to care for as my succulents. Neither require much watering.
I’m really hoping my phalaenopsis orchid blooms again this year. When I bought it last year, it had two beautiful spikes of white blooms. Now that I’ve heard from Tracy, I’m afraid it’s not potted in the right mix. I thought I was doing the right thing when I potted it in forest bark. What do you think, Tracy?

Bark is good. Bark is very good. Lots of orchid mixes are made up of bark, stones, and charcoal, but really the bark is all you need. It is the moss that gets funky, and not a good kind of funky.

Nice pictures. Stumbled upon your blog in search of tabouleh recipe and loved the entire site. May I ask what camera you own? And the lens you used to shoot these pictures. Just a suggestion – just like the recipes you post for food, you may also post the recipes for these pictures…like camera settings, camera mode, Adobe Lightroom techniques used etc. Such hints would help newbies like me to learn photography :-)

I’m so glad you found my blog! I use an old Nikon D80 and a 50mm f1.8 lens. I really love that lens for food photography. I’m not sure I can find the time to post those photo details, but I will say that I usually shoot in manual mode, with my ISO set to 400, with a pretty wide aperture. I like shallow depths of field and bokeh. :)
