Can you believe it? I can’t. 2014 went by like the blink of an eye. It was my first year as a full-time blogger (dream job!) and I worked my tail off all year to make this work. That’s how I’d characterize the past year—work, work and more work. I’m entering my twenty-ninth year still reeling from the end of a recent relationship and I feel like something big is missing. I’m scared but eager for a new year and new possibilities.
Below, you’ll find the most popular recipes from 2014. You all have excellent taste, you know that? I’m looking forward to getting back into the kitchen and cooking up some more recipes for you. Thank you all for reading along and cooking with me and sharing my website with your friends and family. I truly couldn’t do what I love for a living if it weren’t for you. Thank you!
1) Sweet Potato and Black Bean Tacos with Avocado-Pepita Dip
Easily gluten free and/or vegan
“Made these for a couple friends who came over for dinner… you could hear a pin drop while we were eating, they were so DELICIOUS!!!!! And so healthy for you! I followed the recipe to a tea and it was great, will be another staple from your blog!…” — Katie
2) Creamy Butternut Squash Linguine with Fried Sage
Vegan
“What can I say, all 6 kids LOVED this and that’s a first for meat free night in my house. Thank you!” — Miriam
3) Quick Vegan Chana Masala
Gluten free and vegan
“Just made this for dinner tonight and it is spectacular. I love Chana Masala but this one takes the cake. This will definitely be a regular recipe in my house. Also, it was really quite quick. Perfect. Just perfect.” — Lynette
4) The Very Best Brownies.
Worth it.
“I was slightly skeptical of the pictures- there’s no way any brownie can look that delicious, right? You proved me wrong! These are amazing and so easy! They’re really quick to whip up and the cook time is incredibly short. AMAZING!!!! Make me more miracle recipes please!” — Rachael
5) Peanut-Sesame Slaw with Soba Noodles
Easily gluten free and vegan
“Oh my goodness, I made this slaw for dinner tonight and it was AMAZING. No exaggeration – it was so, so good! (The manfriend enjoyed it as well!) I only used half a cabbage and there are so many leftovers – looking forward to taking them to the office for lunch tomorrow! Thanks for the recipe – this one is definitely a keeper!” — Maresa
6) Spicy Kale and Coconut Stir Fry
Gluten free and easily vegan
“Delicious! My family devoured the whole pan of this tonight. Your recipes are amazing and I always tell all my friends about your blog. I already have a few of them hooked too!” — Robyn
7) Maple-Sweetened Pumpkin Muffins with Oats
Easily gluten free and easily vegan
“I made these muffins yesterday–soo delicious and moist! I used melted coconut oil and could not detect any coconut flavor in the muffins. My husband is a fan of this recipe as well. Will make again and again! Thank you, Kate!” — Melanie
8) Curried Coconut Quinoa and Greens with Roasted Cauliflower
Gluten free and vegan
“Delicious and so full of flavor! The coconut milk in the quinoa was divine. My husband, a meat-eater probably said, “This is so good!” about a bazillion times as we were eating dinner. He also mentioned how everyone should be a vegetarian for at least a week so they understand what flavors are instead of just throwing salt on meat and calling it a meal. I’ll say this was a big win.” — Tricia
9) Lentil-Chickpea Veggie Burgers with Avocado Green Harissa
Gluten free (buns excluded)… I actually prefer these black bean and sweet potato burgers!
“Kate, I made these for dinner tonight with a friend and they are so tasty! I could… well, did eat the harissa by the spoonful. Thanks for sharing!” — Quinn
10) Toasted Oatmeal with Strawberry Chia Jam and Coconut Whipped Cream
Gluten free and vegan
“This was the most delicious breakfast! I was really struggling to find something good to make, as out here in Costa Rica we only shop at the farmer’s market once a week on Saturdays, so needed a breakfast with what was in the cupboards. Happened to have everything except for the strawberries, so made it following the recipe and replaced the jam with fresh banana and mango – a tropical version I guess haha! Thanks for sharing, the coconut cream is excellent and I’d have never thought of it on my own.” — Charlie

Kate, I’m a long time board member and supporter of Wayside Waifs (KC’s largest rescue and adoption org in the bi-state region), and would love to send you info re: our annual event, Fur Ball. This year’s theme is: The Wizard of Paws :-)
It always sells out at 1,000 people and is casual and fun. Let me know if you’d like to learn more. I follow your blog and always watch for updates on your “puppy”.
It would be terrific to get a signed cookbook from you to put in our silent auction, and it would be great exposure for you to those at the event who might not yet know about your terrific recipes, photography, and cooking advice!
Kate
Hi Susan! Thanks for saying hello! I’m interested in the event. Unfortunately, I don’t have a cookbook to sign (yet)!
