I seem to suffer from chronic wanderlust. My poor passport hasn’t been stamped since I arrived home from France four years ago, but there is so much to explore in the U.S. that I try to appease myself with frequent road trips. My cash flow has slowed to a trickle since I quit my office job, however, and I’m feeling terribly confined here in Central Oklahoma.
On a whim, I picked up a [very] part-time job at a beautiful raw food restaurant* in Oklahoma City. I have been busy training to become a server this week, but I have a couple of real shifts this weekend. I’m a little apprehensive about my return to waiting tables; at age twenty-five, accidentally splashing myself with strangers’ dirty dishwater is enough to make me question my life decisions.
I hope to scrounge up enough tip money to take a trip soon. I’d like to visit my dear college roommate in Minneapolis. She says it’s beautiful in the summer.
In the meantime, I’m going to live vicariously through these old Polaroids of my grandparents‘ trip to Niagara Falls. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Have you been? Where are your favorite domestic destinations?
*By principle, I try to keep my work life and personal life separate. Therefore, I’ll probably never refer to my new employer by name, but you may see a few raw food recipes soon. I’m feeling inspired to try new things. :)

Love the polaroids! I’m also afflicted with permanent wanderlust, I’d love to tell you it fades, but I’m in my middle years and it’s still insatiable (and I really wouldn’t want to change that). Keep taking (crazy) part time jobs – you never know the connections you’ll make through those, keep trying out wonderful new food ideas, keep wandering – therein lies the secret to a (potentially) happy life. Good luck!

KATE. You work at a raw restaurant in OKC? I’m pretty sure you work two doors down from me. :) Lunch soon!
